had first OB appt
I had my first OB appointment today. I actually called this morning to set up an appt (I'm coming from RE), and they said that if I came over then, they could squeeze me in. I was pretty happy, since I'm off this week anyhow.
Anyhow, he went over some basics - vitamins, due date, testing, and did a sono. baby looks great, and heard heartbeat. but - I was in such a daze - since I hadn't expected to go in, I wasn't even thinking about what questions I want to ask. I mean, he asked me if I have any questions, but I wasn't thinking at the time. I'm going back in two weeks - any big questions I should be asking at this point in the pregnancy? what did you ask at first appointment?
ETA: there are three docs in the practice. I forgot to even ask if they rotate throughout, or just at the end. should I assume that my appointment in two weeks is with the same doc? when I scheduled appt, she just said, ok, x time, y day

Re: had first OB appt
I was the same way as you, wasn't expecting to hear some things, so I got all flustered and forgot to ask anything!
My questions were:
1- Being that it is a 1 doctor practice, who takes his place if he is unavailable?
2- Are there any major do's and dont's I should know about?
I can't remember any others!

Re: had first OB appt
Here are some that I had listed: I have allergies (or fill in your issue) what is safe to take if I have a problem?
Go over any meds you need to take for anything and find out if they are okay or not - if not what can you do or take instead?
How does the office rotation of doctors work? Do I see you for my first few visits then rotate or rotate throughout my pregnancy?
If it is a solo dr - who will deliver my baby if you are not available?
Which hospitals do you have delivery privileges at? If more than one - which hospital do you recommend I go to and why?
What signs should I look for that there might be a problem?
When should I call the office? Will I be able to speak with a doctor or only the nurse?
What foods do you recommend I stay away from? (I.e. can I eat cold cuts? tuna? can I drink coffee?)
How do i get my test results - does someone call me or do I have to call the office?
Those are just a few of the possible questions you can tailor them to fit your specific needs/ concerns
