Do u use them? How old was ur child when u first went? My DD is 18 months old and my DH still doesn't feel comfortable taking her there but I'm dying to get back into shape. Our DD isn't around kids at all and I also think this would be a great way to socialize her.. What do u guys think? Good or bad idea?

Gym Daycare

My gym doesn't have a daycare but if it did, I'd definitely feel comfortable leaving him there by the time he was 18 months. If you're unsure, observe the daycare to see if you like it.

We do - I started taking him when he was like 8 months I think. Now he is 17 months and he loves it.

Just talk to the folks there to make yourself comfortable. Many gyms have a channel on the tvs so you can peek on the kids while you are on a cardio machine!

I've used it since DD was around 8 or 9 months. She's 3 now, but when she was that little I would leave if it was crowded.

What if you just started with like half an hour a time to make sure everyone was comfortable with it?

I put DD in when she was 2.
Sometimes she'd like it, other times, she'd cry & they would page me.
It was a little unorganized & I wasn't super fond of it.

DS was under one, maybe 8 or 9 months old.
It was ok for awhile, until one day they had to come get me from Zumba to tell me DS was hysterical crying, his nose was running and maybe he was sick.
His nose was running because he was hysterically crying. The only times DS cried like that was when someone was yelling. My cousin later told me she could hear them screaming at the kids through the walls when she walked the track. I was done after that. Not to say that all gym daycares are like that, but it left a bad taste in my mouth.

Re: Gym Daycare

We have used it since DD was about 2. We are very comfortable with it. I like being able to see the room on the video cameras - not sure how I would feel if that weren't an option.

I would take a look around the daycare and check for cleanliness and care. Most have big glass windows so people can see in and out.
IMO, it would only be for what? 2 hours max? and you're right there if there is ever a problem. It's also good for your DD to get some social interaction since you say she isn't around other LOs much. This is a great age to learn through modeling from peers. Sooooo many benefits.

I first took dd at 8-9mos and fairly infrequently. However recently we go every weekend. Sometimes Saturday and Sunday. It's the first thing she asks to do in the am, she loves the gym. The "teachers" are young girls who love all the kids/babies and fawn over them plus that's the place I'll let her have a juice box and snack. So she knows she'll get an extra treat.

It's hard when sat am she asks to go to the gym and I don't feel like it, but good motivation at the same time!

I think DD first went around 3 years old or so. I was too nervous before that. DS started a while after we had been taking DD (who absolutely LOVES going to the gym with mommy and/or daddy). He was 18mo and cried briefly the first two times as we'd leave but they said he stopped immediately, otherwise they'd come get us. Now at 2 he also adores it. My kids ask to go to the gym all the time and get upset when they don't get to go.
