Growing pains? Meant for parenting board!!

My son sometimes wakes up crying and he tells us his knee hurts. Pediatrician told me that it's just growing pains and no big deal but it can be painful so give Tylenol. We were also told that if he complains of this during the day it should be looked into further. Well my son has recently been complaining about this during the day on and off but my gut it telling me he is seeking attention.

If your kids has growing pains do they complain of it during the day? Did you get an MRI, etc?

Thanks

DS complains about it every few months. Sometimes it hurts so bad it wakes him up at night. It's usually the bottom of his feet and we massage them until he falls back asleep.

he's never complained during the day. we've never had him checked. If he was in pain all day, i'd probably take him to the doctor and if it continued, ask for more testing.

Re: Growing pains? Meant for parenting board!!

My dd has severe growing pains. We took her to the pediatrician and they did the blood tests to look for cancer, but thankfully she tested fine. She also had an ultrasound and x rays. It is so sad to see her in so much pain. Our ped said if it is just one point versus a whole area that is something to be concerned with as well. For my dd, it is her left calf. She used to get them almost nightly (ages 1 1/2 to 3). Screaming and crying in pain. It was really difficult for her and us. Now she just gets them when she is having a growth spurt. Ice packs and massage help.

My older ds only complains at night. He goes through spurts - I massage and if the pain isn't going away I give him a 1/2 dose of Tylenol and it usually helps.

Glad she is ok, but now I am really worried. I am going to call now instead of waiting for his we'll visit.
