Growing Grass
WHen is the best time to plan seeds?
Now that we had the town remove the two large mamma trees, we have some sun in our front yard to grow grass, but I dont know how!

Re: Growing Grass
the ground will be frozen here at least until March, sometimes longer. young grass can get killed off in a hard frost so it best to wait until that risk has passed. Late April should be safe.

Re: Growing Grass
I have heard to put seed down right before snowfall- since the snow will provide moisture and the seeds will reamin dormant in the cold.
I did a quick look -

Re: Growing Grass
I have done a lot of talking to poeple at hicks and I believe they told me that seed goes down in the fall and then again after St. Patty's day. Get a good fertilizer to go with it.

Re: Growing Grass
the only bad part about that here on LI is if the seed is just sitting on top of hard soil the bluejays, robins & any other birds that are still around will see it & come down & feast on it.
