Groceries

Trying to plan ahead with my twins coming in the winter- what's the best option for grocery shopping? Typically we do Costco once a month and bulk shop then pick up as needed for like fruits or veggies. Is Amazon grocery cost efficient?

I left the kids home with dh or used shoprite store pickup. I did not think the amazon pantry looked like it had great prices at all.

I did my normal shopping. We would either all go or DH would stay home and I would run out.

This. No need to pay delivery fees or deal with someone else picking out my produce.
It was actually nice to get dressed and get out of the house and away from the screaming baby and feel human again for an hour

How is the pricing for peapod? I hate spending a lot on groceries each month. Are you able to use coupons?

Exactly. It was a welcome change to get away for a little bit. I like to do my own shopping.

I find the pricing to be fine, and yes you can use coupons.

For me, if I'm getting away from my babies id rather get a manicure than grocery shop once a week lol. The $6 delivery fee is well worth avoiding crowds, waiting on line, packing the groceries, and then unpacking them at home. The delivery man brings them straight up my kitchen lol

I had helped when ds1 was a newborn so I didn't really need help doing groceries, once he was a bit bigger I was able to manage doing grocery shopping with him. Then I had ds2 and had very little help. I did peapod for a while cause I was so afraid to not being to manage a toddler and a newborn in stores. But as times progresses, u get used to things, and after a while I was able to do chores with both of them. Although if I do have the help, I'd def prefer doing chores by myself.

I did everything like normal. I'd either bring the baby (and then a toddler and a baby) or I would go when dh stayed with them.

I like doing my own shopping.

This. Especially with a newborn, a supermarket visit was often our big weekend outing! One of us pushed the baby and the other pushed the cart.

I love peapod, if you order enough in advance there are several days and times that you can save money!

Re: Groceries

Peapod for most of my groceries, but I still chose to go to the store for perishables such as produce and meats. 1. I prefer to pick out my own produce/meats and 2. I never seemed to have enough room in my grocery cart for everything (especially with multiple children in tow.)

We would do Costco every 3 months or so for paper goods (toilet paper, paper towels, tissues), baby wipes and cleaning products.

Re: Groceries

When DS was born I did normal grocery shopping -BJ's and shoprite- what it was too much... The driving, bringing things up to the apartment, unpacking, etc.

Now, 11 years later, we mainly do Amazon (I feel they have good prices) and Peapod. They don't have everything in Amazon, so I use a local grocery store, like whole foods. I don't like the way things get packed at peapod (i.e sometimes meats get packed with other stuff and I don't like it) but prices are good. Fresh direct is expensive but you get good already cooked meals, and things get packed very well. I use FD mainly when we have coupons for it.

Sometimes I think that what I save with tolls and gas, is what I paid extra with those deliveries, plus the conveniency.

Me too! It's just my life. I always have kids in tow and I'm use to it. As they get bigger I give them jobs to do in the store and they love it.

I often use fresh direct (though I'm never thrilled with their prices or produce quality) or instacart (which has better quality stuff because you pick the store the shopper goes to, but has its own issues). Not sure what I will do when baby comes - probably either so quick trips to the local store and put things in the bottom of the stroller, or go by myself.
