Grieving Taxes - Spinoff
For those of you who have grieved your taxes or have any experience in this area, who did you use and would you recommend them? Does it matter who we use? I did a google search and found a few names but I vaguely recall a post a while back where someone said to avoid a specific company. I just can't remember who or find it in the search feature. Thanks in advance!!

Yes, used them two years in a row. They got me over 20 percent each time.

I used Maidenbaum last year too. They sent me a letter that I won, but my taxes still went up $700. Why???

They probably would have gone up a lot more, but you need to double-check the tax year your grievance is for versus the tax bill you are looking at.
Unfortunately grieving is sort of losing its impact as so many people are doing it. The town still needs X amount of tax dollars, so if enough people grieve and their assessment goes down, the town will just increase the overall tax rate to make up the shortfall, thereby reducing the net impact of your grievance.

Re: Grieving Taxes - Spinoff
Grieving your taxes is kind of a misnomer. You're not actually lowering your taxes, you are lowering the assessment upon which your taxes are based.
The PP is correct - in order to make up the shortfall, tax rates must rise. You will still be paying less, however, because you have to figure that you would have been paying the higher tax rate anyway (tax rates rise every year) based upon the higher assessment.
I can recommend several attorneys for you to choose from. Will FM
