Granite Frustration - it will be cut!
Our slab is definitely large enough but while going over the layout today I was told it would have to be cut and seamed anyway. My countertop is L-shaped. 5 feet on one side and 9 feet on the other. The sink cut-out is on the long side. I was told because the upper cabinets have already been installed, the granite can't be slid into place and may snap at the sink area. It needs to be lifted and plopped into position. Is this the correct way? Should I argue the point, try to switch fabricators, or isn't it such a big deal after all?
It will be cut where the perpendicular sections meet. One piece will remain the 5 feet and the other will become 7 feet.

I have the same set up you described, and its one piece. Its definitely easier (for them) to install in two pieces but it can be done as one.
I would keep pushing the issue.

I was just at someone's house & saw that their granite was not cut, and they have an L shape with a sinkin teh corner.
They only changed the counter too, not the cabinets, so the upper cabinets were there. I am not sure how long it was though, so may be it become mote of an issue with a bigger slab.

My parents did granite and they had to cut it too and they have an L shape counter but in all honesty you cant even tell it was cut. HTH

almost every granite I have seen on a L-Shape has been cut- think it's pretty standard.

Check around with other places. They might be able to do it. But a sink cut out in a 9 ft long granite is a weak spot.
Maybe most people don't have a 9 ft spam on the long side.

We have an L-shaped counter and ours is cut (by the sink). You can't tell unless you look REALLY closely.
