got a breast infection and have to stop breast feeding
so i wasn't feeling good yesterday and then i got up today and my roght breast was hurting, i was really hot and i felt like i had a really bad flu, so i took my temp and it was 103.3! i got scared and called my OB and they had me come in right away, turns out i have a breast infection, i guess my son latched on incorrectly, cracked my nipple and some bacteria transfered from his mouth to my breast,
so b/c i am allergic to penicillin, so they had to give me a different antibiotic, however i cant breastfeed for 10 days b/c while penicillin can be transmitted safely to the baby, whatever my doctor had to put me on (their weren't many options) you cant breastfeed while taking, i can pump 4 times a day and i have to supplement with formula, so after thinking about it i decided to just go ahead and do formula only, its such a hard choice b/c i really loved breastfeeding, but truthfully i am in to much pain right now to even pump and i have to give him a bottle for 10 days and what if he doesn't go back to my breast after having the bottle, so instead of possibly having to deal with those issues, i just decided to stop. i just feel so sad, like i am failure, but i know deep down this is the right decision.

Pumping may help the breast infection clear up faster and you do not want to just stop on a dime. that cause you more pain. You should discontinue bfing slowly and not all at once. Pump for comfort at a mininum.

Awwww....you are only human and can only do so much! You certainly can't help that you got an infection. Take the time to get yourself better. Breast feeding or formula feeding....everything will work out fine!!!
