Good Sam Vs Southside
Can you tell me where post people are giving birth? I gave birth to my daughter at Good Sam. Not sure about my second.

Good Sam Vs Southside
I had my son at Southside almost 2 years ago and cannot say enough good things about them. The nurses and staff were amazing.

So glad you posted this because I was going to also!
I had my DD at Good Sam, but I was thinking of trying Southside this time.
Would you ladies mind sharing what specifically you loved about Southside?

Every nurse we encountered was helpful and answered all of our questions, even the "dumb" ones. I had one nurse sit with me an hour and a half in the middle of the night helping DS latch. Everyone just made it a very caring atmosphere. They even called a week later to see how we were doing. I felt that DS and I were well taken care of from beginning to end.

Also the rooms are so much better and you have the option of paying for a private room.

I had DS #1 at Southside almost 3 years ago and I can't wait to get back in there to deliver DS #2. They are GREAT on the maternity floor!
PS.. paying for a private room is worth every single ***** penny!

I had DD at Southside and I thought the L&D nurse staff was amazing. They even came up to maternity to visit me and DD.
When I was in L&D for false labor as I was going home (11PM) they called in an order to a local diner for me.

I had the first 2 at Good Sam and will have this one there as well.
I have no problems with them and DD2 had to be in NICU for a week- they were wonderful there.
I've heard very positive things about Southside as well.
I don't think you can go wrong either way.
I THINK that the GSH NICU is rated higher though, in case that is a concern.

i delivered DS at good sam. My dr said they have a fantasic NICU unit and the southside didnt. However, i didn't find the staff or nurses to be helpful while i was at GS.
*** i just remembered my Dr said the NICU unit at Southside isnt as good as GS. We requested LO2 to be delievered at Southside and he said as long as there full term - otherwise he'd prefer to stay at GS bc of the NIC unit.

I was going to post something similar!! I have a choice between Good Sam and Southside but was unsure of which hospital to choose. While Good Sam is right around the corner from me I have heard wonderful things about Southside.

I delivered at both, my first ds was at Good Sam and my second at Southside. My experience at Southside was so much better. The L&D nurses were better, the food was better, the rooms were better etc.
Southside does have a strict visitor policy, but I actually was happy for that. At Good Sam my roommate had people there all day and I never got any rest and her husband snuck back in after they told him to leave at night. She had had a c-section and had already been there for a day or two. I had just labored all night and was exhausted and never had any peace and quiet. Also the rooms at Good Sam were ridiculously small for two people. Southside, visiting policy last time I was there was two people at a time and they have set visiting hours.
I'm due any day now with #3 and will be delivering at Southside.

Good Sam Vs Southside
I had ds at Good Sam. The labor and delivery unit was AWESOME. Some of the nurses on the mother baby floor were very fresh. I will be having my next dc at Good Sam as well.

Good Sam was eh this past Oct. I heard several stories from others too of it not being all its cracked up to be. If I stayed with my ob who delivers at both, I'd go to Southside. Private rooms- yay!

*** i just rememebered my dr said southside doesnt have a NIC unit at all so if something happens to the baby they have to airlift them to Stony Brook. Id rather deal with the poor nurse help than take that chance
Southside does have a nicu unit. my nephews were both in it, however it is not a level 3 nicu that deals with more extensive issues such as micropreemies.

$200-$250 range. BEST MONEY EVER SPENT!!!!
Also, as another note to how great the nurses on the maternity floor were... I had GD while pregnant so obviously couldn't eat all of the carby goodness I really wanted. One of the nurses overheard me saying how badly I wanted a bagle and iced tea... the next morning, she showed up with both!!!

I delivered at Southside as well, and had a great experience too. The nurses were all so awesome - really positive and nurturing and made you feel comfortable even during such a private and delicate time. I didn't have a private room. It wasn't something we could really justify spending $220/night on. Luckily out of the 3 nights I was there, I only had a roommate for 1.

Good Sam Vs Southside
I delivered DS at Good Sam. My L&D nurses were out of this world amazing. Also any other staff - Drs, Anethesiologist (i had 2) were all amazing.
I had a great day nurse but my night nurse was nasty.
I had a horrible roommate but tht could happen anywhere (i refuse to spend the extra money for a private even if it was an option)
