good feeling.
Yesterday I ventured outside during lunch to run an errand, something I rarely do. Outside my building I encountered a panhandler asking for food. Like a typical New Yorker, I ignored him and hurried on because it was cold outside. As I walked away, he said something that stayed with me while I ran my errand.
He was still on the corner when I got back. I walked up to him and handed him a bag with chicken noodle soup, a sandwich and water. Before he could say anything, I told him it was because he said I have beautiful hair. He looked shocked, then thanked me and wished me happy holidays.
That good feeling stayed with me the rest of the day. The memory of that young man will stay with me for a long while.

good feeling.
That's such a sweet story.
I felt terrible the other night - I was driving home from a friend's house and it was pretty late (around midnight) and very cold out. I was stopped at a light and a guy started walking up to my car and I got pretty frightened and motioned to him to go away. He walked to the car behind me and started motioning that he was just looking for a hat or gloves. I had a blanket in my trunk that I could have gotten out to give him, but I was too afraid, and ashamed for feeling that way. I still feel really bad about it. Your story makes me feel better about kindness in this world. Thank you

Re: good feeling.
That's a really nice story! Thank you for sharing. I remember when DH and I stayed in the city I wrapped up my dinner and on the way back to the hotel there were a lot of homeless sleeping on the church steps. I handed one my dinner, but then felt bad after bc I realized it was pasta and I had no utensils. LOL I know sounds funny, but I was happy to share, but realized it was kinda messy.

Re: good feeling.
That's really nice! There was someone asking for money outside my building in midtown two weeks ago and I really only had a $50 on me so I said sorry I don't have anything. He was so nice about it- said "that's okay, thank you for stopping, you have a wonderful holiday season." and just seemed so genuine. I tried to go back and give him something when I got my lunch and got change but he was gone. I wish I could find him again.
It's really hard because for every guy like this or the one you met there's another one like the one that I gave a completely sealed container of fresh cut fruit which he THREW back at me and told me "I don't want this sh!t!"

Re: good feeling.
That is very nice of you. Believe me it will stay with him for a long time. I used to do a lot of outreach with the homeless and you have no idea how much the little things mean so much. I mean as little as even saying hello. Someone told me he once went 3 full days and nights without one person speaking a word to him. He said he was in NYC, homeless, biggest city in the world and never felt so alone. He said yes, he would’ve loved a clean pair of socks or to brush his teeth but the worst feeling by far was no one even saying good morning or hello. That always stuck with me.
