Going to see Freddy today
Not sure he remembers when I come or if anyone comes.
I bought him a dry erase board so everyone can write what date they came to see him or called. I will tell the staff to write on it.
I also got a timeline done up for him to remind him of what year certain things happened. I showed it to him and he liked it. I went to Kinkos and got it made to 24x36 for his wall. I also got him a clock..funny the hospital didn't have a clock in his room.
The do have him on a very nice air bed that makes a ton of noise..the bed is really good though.
Hoping they can start working on him to get him to transfer from wheelchair to toilet soon. They have him in a diaper and I hate the thought of it. I know it's necessary right now but I just hate it.
His concentration has gotten better and he is able to write. We wrote together yesterday. He looked at his handwriting and said it stinks. I told him his handwriting was never that good anyway.
He knows he can't remember and we gently correct him. I went out of the room for a minute and came back and he thought I just showed up. Yikes!
I''m hoping that his memory gets better. I had to tell him that was no longer married..he didn't seem that broken up about it.
I guess if you had to forget something it would be a horrible divorce.
The food there is just awful. I go and get him pizza and hot dogs from the local vendors. Today I will bring him a corned beef sandwich with cole slaw and a pickle..I hope I can make it to him before they give him dinner. They feed them early over there.
The place is good for him but he dying to get out of there. He's not going anywhere soon. The other patients in there are looney tunes as well.
I wish more of his friends would go there. he's depressed and lonely.

You're doing a great job trying to keep his brain active. As you already know it takes time... A LOT of time, but from all the updates it does sound like he is getting better. Keep it up and before you know it he will be transfered out of there.

Re: Going to see Freddy today
I know I'm doing all I can. I wish others in my family would step up. Mostly his sons. They are involved in their own lives and see him once a week or once every two weeks. I think it's important for them to be there. It orients him.
