Going to my first baby shower for a friend...HELP!
How much do I spend on a gift? This is my first baby shower, the mom-to-be is actually DH's best friend (her and her husband were both in our bridal party). They live in Boston and we are going and staying with them the weekend of the shower, her MIL is throwing the shower. I would like to get her a substantial gift because she is what I would consider a close friend, especially of DH's. The things on her registry range from $20 to over $300 so I'm guessing somewhere in between? Does $180 for something seem overboard?? Help please! TIA!

Just go with what you can afford on these things .. 180 is extremly generous but not over the top.. imo

I think 180 is generous. I spent about that on my MOH's baby shower...

Id go with $50-100. I generally like to go with about $60 and buy all the little things on the registry and make a big gift basket out of it.

Spend what you can comfortably afford.
If you can do $180 - then do it. Everyone is different in what they like to get for a shower.
Sometimes I like to go big and get a big ticket item....or other times I might buy 5 or 6 small items that add up to a good amount.

I think $100 is extremely generous. Keep in mind you might want to buy a small gift when the baby is born.

As everyone else said, you should always spend what you can afford. A real friend will appreciate what you gave & you being at the party.
If you plan on going to visit once the baby is born then I personally think $180 is a little too much to spend on a baby shower gift.
