Going in to NYC Tomorrow w/ Alex...Should I Taxi or Subway??
Hey Moms~
I usually drive in to the city, but Alex really wants to ride the "choo-choo" tomorrow. Once we get in we have to get down to SoHo, I an torn between what to do. Is it unsafe (perhaps even illegal) to take a 2 1/2 yr. old in a taxi w/o a carseat? (I'd obviously put the stroller in the trunk). I'll take the subway if it's safer, it just seems like a PITA to do the subway stairs w/ a stroller,a big bag, and a kid...not to mention being in the subway w/ a chance that we'd have to stand .
Calling all NYC mamas..How do you do it??? LOL!

We taxi all the time w//out a car seat....the traffic is so bad that the cars never really travel very quickly. I just put the baby next to me.

do you have to change subways? the subway is not that bad. can you fold her stroller until you get to the street?
the elevator is a little out of the way but not terrible.
i feel more comfortable taking the subway, but if I may take cabs when they are older.

It's not illegal to take a taxi and not have a carseat.
We ALWAYS take the train and never put DS in a taxi. I fear for myself in a taxi, never mind if my baby was in the car too. And, it's not like they care...you're just another fare for them.
It's not far from Penn, if that's what you're going into. Just take the 6 downtown.

When I have been in a taxi with DS, I make sure to wear a seatbelt and put it over both of us. I typically put the strap across my chest and both of our laps and hold him tight. I don't want him to be choked if we stop short. On the subway and Path, I have taken trains from/to stations that have elevators (all by coincidence) or traveled with people that can help carry stuff. Make sure to lock the wheels if you have Alex in the stroller!
