Going Crazy

So yesterday, I find out that someone in my school has chicken pox. I am a reading teacher, so I see a few kids from each different grade level. Of course, it was one of my students. He wasnt feeling well on Monday, so I was feeling his head to see if he had a fever (you know...direct contact). So when I found out I got really nervous. I never had the chicken pox, but I did have the shot.

Then I find out that another girl in that class, who OF COURSE I have as well, had spots on her and was going to the dr. So I call my doc, and then find out that I am NOT IMMUNE to chicken pox I was so nervous. The dr said to me, getting chicken pox as an adult could be life treathening and very harmful to the baby. Just the way I wanted to hear it.

I had to go to the hospital last night and get a shot. I was so nervous, I didnt know if I should get the shot or not. But I was advised that it would be more harmful if I did not get the shot. The dr contacted infectious diseases because he said a case like this is very rare. So now I am home, inspecting my body all the time for any little dots. If I find any, or if I run a fever, I have to go right to the hospital. The doc said he doesnt care if I come up 10 times and he turns me away because they're not the chicken pox. So now I am really going crazy

Oh wow, so sorry. I understand, I'd be freaking out too! Hang in there and some prayers you dont get it

Just try and relax sweetie. I had a similar run in with a patient and the shingles. I stressed so much I gave my self a rash!! My doc at me. It was kind of funny know but I now how sacry it can be.

I can understand freaking out...that stinks.
Why were u not immune if u had the shot already?
I wonder if that means all these kids that had shots a few years ago are not immune..I do not get it.

I have no idea why I am not immune even though I had the shot. I had it done 10 years ago, and was never told I needed it done again.

I'm also mad because I had the test done to see if I was immune before I went to college (I guess it was mandatory) but was NEVER once told that I was not immune. If they would have told me, I would have gotten a booster shot, and not had to have dealt with this.

The nurse at my school told me to call my drs office to see if they ran a varicella titer before I went to college. And thankfully they did. Because if they hadnt, I would have had to wait for the test to see if I was immune to come back....but you are supposed to take the other shot within 72 hours of exposure. So I am happy that I had it done.


I don't understand why they dont seem to make this as important as fifth's disease.
