Going back to work

I came back to work on Monday and I am a wreck! I hate being here. I cannot stop crying. I'm fortunate enough to have my cousin watch my little boy, but I just want to be with him! What makes it harder is that I work almost an hour away from home. He's at my cousin's house near my house, so by the time I get out of work, I speed there to get to him. I'm at the point where I just want to quit my job, but I know that's not the right choice. Anyone have any advice?

I totally understand you. I was on the floor sobbing before I went back to work. It does get better but, I still always race home to be with my daughter. I just always think that working is what I have to do to make sure she has the best life I can provide for her.

Completely normal.
I cried for days before returning to work and for about a week after.
It gets easier.
While I'm at work I miss her, look at pictures etc... but I always look forward to seeing her smiling face when I get home!
I hated being back to work at first, but now I prefer it. It's still a difficult balancing act but I'm managing better and better.

I was the complete opposite. My DS was so colicy that I was running out of the house to get back to work. But there are days I miss my DS. My DS is in daycare a few days and family 2 days. Everyone sends me pictures which def makes it better.

I work to give my DS a better life so I just think of it take way.

Aw, I feel you!!!! Im sorry. I know it doesnt seem like it now but it gets easier. When I went back I was a mess. I cried every day. I would keep Emma up late just to spend time with her.

I take breaks twice a day to pump and I'll facetime with her during that time. She stays home with my husband and now its so fun when I get home. She gets so excited when I walk through the door - its the best.

How old is your LO?

I just went back last Thursday, and it wasn't as bad as I thought. It's super tough leaving her every day, but there is a part of me that appreciates being with adults again. But, I do get excited at the end of the day, knowing I'll be able to see her smiling face.

I will also say, in a few months your DD will be older and staying up later....hang in there until then. When I get home now (5:30) I have about 3-4 hours to spend with my kids as opposed to the 20 minutes when they were little babies.

It sucks. Been back to work full time myself for 2 months. Ideally I wish I could work pt but we can't afford it. I hate missing her every day and only getting to spend like 2 hrs with her at night before bed. It is getting easier because I am resigned to the fact that I have no choice but to work full time.

I'm going back to work 4/11 and I can already bust into tears thinking about it. I work in the city and so I'm also about an hour away. I'm so worried about spending so much time away from DD and already think about quitting. I've promised myself I'm going to go back to work for at least two months before making any decisions about quitting. I don't want to make a decision based off emotion and regret it in the long run.

I really like my job and want to make being a working mom work,but if I feel my DD isn't getting enough of my time or I feel she is lacking in any way, I will have to make some changes.

I hope things get easier for you. It's so hard spending basically 24 hours a day with them and then suddenly having to be apart for so many hours. Good luck.

It's definitely not easy at first. Trust me, as time goes on you will appreciate having time away to be you. My DS is approaching the terrible 2's and, I can't even believe I'm saying this, I practically drop and run to get away from him in the morning. LOL Work has become my refuge!

i went back towork about 5 months ago. It washard at first, but has gotten much easier. I actually feel good now at work, because i talk about him incessently and have pics of him, and he is in a daycare i trust, adn feel good about. I still rush home to be withhim and dont like tobe away from him on the weekends, but i am not crying like i was.. I cried for a few weeks on return, and still get a bit teary when i have to drop him off.. normally dh does.. i know i am providing him with a life and shelter that i couldnt otherwise afford him. He is also so advanced being in daycare- crawling, standing, trying to walk, and i know that daycare is a huge part of it. They say it takes a village to raise a child- well i pay for my village! it does get better, hang in there..
