Going away without my nursing toddler
In a few weeks, I am going away for a girls weekend without my nursing toddler for 2 days. I am pretty excited - not going to lie.
Anyways - I think I need to bring my pump so I don't become engorged and leak everywhere. My DS still nurses 3 times a day during the week and probably 5 times a day on weekends. I have not pumped since June. Is it okay for me to use my old pump with the old tubing? I'm fine with tossing the milk if the old tubing is an issue since its not like my DS needs to drink it. Obviously, if he can drink it, that's a bonus.
I also have no idea how many times to pump. I figure once in the morning and once in the evening should be sufficient so I'm not uncomfortable.

Pump at the times you normally nurse and you'll be fine.

Going away without my nursing toddler
Thanks! I'll pump on a weekday schedule then - 3 times. I'm not spending my entire Saturday away attached to a pump! I'm looking forward to some wine and sleep :)

Re: Going away without my nursing toddler
I was recently away from my nursing 15mo and I brought my pump in part because I wanted to keep my supply up because I was afraid he would wean due to my absence, although I did use that opportunity to officially wean the side he had been rejecting for a while.
I generally pumped 2-3x a day (morning and before bed, and occasionally again before dinner if we happened to be around).
We intended to be away 3 nights but it turned out to be 5 nights because our flight home was cancelled due to the snowstorm. He happily latched on again and has been nursing 24/7 since my return. I probably could have gotten away with pumping 1x a day or less based purely on engorgement, but my supply is a lot less now (I only pumped about 2oz each time when I used to get much more). I saved the milk when I was sober, dumped when I wasn't ;)
Enjoy your trip!

Me too! I never in a million years thought I'd still be nursing him at 21 months, but it works for us v

Thanks for the info. I'm going to be gone for less than 48 hours so I'm hoping my supply will stay relatively the same. I (literally and figuratively) suck at pumping so I doubt I'll get too much.

You shouldn't have a change in supply after only 2 days, don't stress it! He will bring the supply right back up once you are with him again. I think you'd be fine to pump morning at night since it's only 2 days. My 21 months old nurses 3 times a day too, but there have been days where she will not nurse all day and then only at bedtime. It's never affected my supply. Have fun!!
