godparent question
does anyone know the requirements
for one of the twins i would like to ask my niece to be the godmother
i am hers...she is 13 and made all her sacraments
is their an age requirement?

I believe you only have to have been confirmed, I don't know that there's an age requirement. I'm almost positive that I wasn't 16 when I became a Godmother.

Gina, I looked into this bc we want DHs niece and she's 17, I think minimum is 16 but it depends mostly on the monsignor at your church, you can prob call the rectory and ask them directly for the best answer. Hope they say yes to you.

My nephew is being baptized next week,and my brother just went through this.
i was made godmother to my cousin when i was 14 years old, but we just found out they changed the requirements, you must be at least 16 years old. My poor brother asked our cousin to be the godfather of my nephew and he is 15, when they went to the church they looked up his records, and said he cant. My brother had to take it back from him, and it was just upsetting all around.
I would double check with your parish, but i think its a mandated requirement throughout all the churches.

catholic church has an age minimum........ I think its 16 AND our church now requires a copy of the baptism/confirmation certificate - so they'd be able to confirm age on it too( they didn't require it 3 years ago when #1 was baptised)
