We just booked my DD's baptism and we asked the deacon about this - he said it is not allowed. In our case, we will just have one name on the baptismal certificate but will have them both stand with her at the font, which is allowed. No godfather.

Re: godoparents- catholic
Definitely not allowed.
You may be able to have one listed as godmother and one listed as a witness.

Re: godoparents- catholic
In the Catholic Church you have to have one of either sex, both are not required. Atleast not our church. DD has two godmothers and two godfathers, I simply wanted them all and don't think I'm having any more children. I put one if each on the certificate (only dh and I know who) and the other two participated just as if they were the Only ones and IMHO being a godparent is about your relationship with the child in everyday life, not what is on a piece of paper anyway. All four of these people are IMO godparents to our DD even though the church doesn't allow more than one. I wish I would've thought to do this with my first ds bc them I would've had another of each that just weren't on the certificate, simply bc there are two people in my life who I'd love to give the honor to but aren't having more kids lol

For one of our DD's ours was the same way. We had our best friends and my SIL and BIL as the god parents. Only we know who's name is on the official baptismal certificate, and I am thankful that my DH chose it since the IL's are no longer involved in my children's lives and thankfully they are not the one's that my DH put on the certificate!
The god parents, whether it be on paper or in person are the ones who are always there for the child and in the childn't life. A piece of paper doesn't change that.

It depends on the church. Most will say no, but my friend is having 2 godmothers for her DD in 2 weeks in a Roman Catholic church.

the roman catholic church said we can have 1 of each godparent - we dont have to have both....
If you have 2 of same sex, only 1 will be "officially" on the certificate.
