Glucose Tests?

I see alot of posts pertaining to Glucose Tests. Is this something that everyone has to have done? Do you need both a 1 hour and a 3 hour done? What does it consist of? Thanks!

Yes you HAVE to have it. Its like hawiian punch. You drink it, wait an hour have blood drawn go home. You only need the three hour if you fail the one hour. Its not awful, you dont need to fast, its really hyped in a negative way. And its such a cake walk.

Re: Glucose Tests?

I actually just took the test this morning. I am 28 weeks. I should have gone last week but I kept putting it off because of the hype about it, but it seriously was not bad at all. I drank the orange drink as soon as I got there and then they had me wait 1 hour (bring a book or magazine) and then took blood. They said I should have the results by today. It wasn't bad at all, the worst part about it was the hour wait (and honestly that wasn't too bad either, it was better then being at work).

My doctor never mentioned it to me until my 26 week appointment, so he will probably tell you about it at your next visit and give you the script to get it done.

Re: Glucose Tests?

At my 24 week appt, my doctor gave me a prescription to go to the lab at have the 1 hour glucose test done.

When you get there, they will give you a drink (VERY SWEET), sometimes they have different flavors (I had orange - it just takes like very sweet flat orange drink). Exactly an hour after you finish drinking it, they take your blood...you're done.

If you fail the 1 hour, your doctor will give you a prescription and you go back again. This time before you drink, they take your blood, you drink, and an hour later they take your blood, and an hour later they take your blood, and an hour later they take your blood and you are done.

Usually (depending on what day you go), your doctor will get the results the next day.

Re: Glucose Tests?

Mine was done at the doctors office around 25 weeks. At my prior appt my dr gave me the orange drink with instructions. The morning of my test I was told to fast and take the drink 45 min before my appt. I waited about an hour before they brought me in and drew blood and that was it. Very simple and nothing to stress over.

I get to take mine at my gyno's office.

At the last appointment they gave me the drink. I choose orange. They told me I have to drink it at 9am and then head to doctors office before 9:45. Go right up to the desk and tell them I just drank the orange drink for glucose please take my blood lol.

My doctor said there is no reason for me to fast. But I still might just in case.

Re: Glucose Tests?

At my 24 week appt I was given a script to take the test at a lab. I think it has to be done by 27 week....I was 26 weeks when I went for mine.

I had to drink the orange flavor and it was disgusting b/c it is thick...I wished I had a straw.

My Dr. said it was not a fasting test, but that they get less false positives if you do fast. I ate around midnight the night before, and had nothing but water before the test (My test was at 9:15).

I passed and did not need to take the 3 hour.
