Glen Oaks?

Anybody live in the area or know much about it? My husband is going to start work at LIJ and we are looking for rentals in the area. This area keeps coming up, but I don't know much about it. Any info you have about it (or surrounding areas) would be greatly appreciated!

Re: Glen Oaks?

It is a part of Bayside. Nice area and very good schools, District 26.

Re: Glen Oaks?

It's a quiet area to live in. I don't know if you'll have kids there but the elementary schools are good. The Jr High, MS 172, I personally wouldn't want to send my kids to but would if I had to but the HS, Martin Van Buren, I would definitely not send my kids to.

If you check in the areas of Little Neck or Douglaston (also close to LIJ), you will be zoned for Cardozo HS, which is good & the Jr High is MS 67, which is great.

If you check Bayside, some areas are zoned for Cardozo HS, some not so you should check.

FM me if you have any specific questions.

Thanks! We actually have a one year old and will likely only stay in the area for 3 years. So schools aren't a huge issue. It seemed kind of sleepy when we went by, with no real "town" feel. Were we are now has a great central area with shops and restaurants. I was hoping for something similar, any suggestions?

hmm, I don't know, it's queens so I guess that's why it doesn't have a town feel. I live in little neck & it doesn't have a town feel to me such as some areas in nassau do when I visit them. Even if you were to go into new hyde park, which is the first nassau town near LIJ, I wouldn't really say it has that cozy town feel either because it borders queens.

Re: Glen Oaks?

It is not a part of Bayside, it's actually part of Little Neck.

There are tons of garden apartments there. When one of our friends was doing his residency at LIJ, they lived there. It was a decent area and you can't beat the commute to the hospital. There is nearby shopping and easy access to the highways.

Great Neck - just a little further east or Bayside (a little west) - near Bell Blvd. There are a lot of apts there.

Re: Glen Oaks?

I think you should consider Bayside, the commute to LIJ would be quick.

Re: Glen Oaks?

I recently had a customer who was looking to buy a co-op in Glen Oaks Village (my customer works at LIJ). Glen Oaks Village is a huge co-op development -- very conveniently located and well maintained. They are basically garden apartments -- two stories (so you are on either the first or second floor) with semi-private entrances. Most of the units are in u-shaped structures with a courtyard in the middle.

Many of these co-ops are available for rent. There are 1, 2, or 3 bedroom units available in the range of $1275-$1750/month. Heat and water are included and many units have a washer/dryer. Several units also have decks or terraces.

Here's a link to their website:

Let me know if you have any questions about Glen Oaks Village or want some help looking for a rental. I am a full-time realtor and I've worked with several people from this site. [email protected] or (516) 587-7618

Thanks Christine I'll be in touch! We are striking out with rentals on our own. It seems like every time I find something online it's already been rented.

Re: Glen Oaks?

I grew up right around there-- I lived in a private neighborhood called Royal Ranch which is right next to Glen Oaks. All of my friends lived there that didn't live in the neighborhood, or on the other side of Little Neck Pkwy which is considered Bellrose where the elementary school is. Also considered in Little Neck is North Shore Towers. I went to PS 186 and JHS 67-- I moved to Merrick for HS. It's SD 26, which is very desirable, which I think makes a difference in who lives there. I have no clue what it's like now, but there were a lot of kids, great commute into the city and super close to LIJ.

You have the area on Union Tpke, and you are also close to very Great Neck for shopping, restaurants, etc.
