giving water to infants

does anyone give their DC water?
i don't know what to do about DD. I feel like she's eating constantly, sometimes not because she is hungry. For instance, when i'm at work DH will give her a bottle at about 8:30, at about 9:30 give her cereal or fruit and by 10:30 or so, she wants another bottle. So i'm thinking maybe give her some water to fill her up a bit...she's a chunky monkey so i don't think she's really starving or anything.

I didn't and wouldn't. From what I've heard, they don't need water until they start on table food. How old is DD? By 6 months you can try a sippy cup with water. Do you use a pacifier? That can help with their desire to suck. Is she getting enough formula in each feeding?

ds #2 was drinking water about 2mos. only about 4oz a day (ped recommended) just be careful when giving a baby water you need to have a small nipple for the bottle, some bottles even sell nipples designed for water. (if the whole is to big they can choke on the water).

My DD had water to help flush out her jaundice when she was a couple of days old and then when summer started and DD was 2 1/2 - 3 months old my ped said it was ok to give water to keep her hydrated.

DS was allowed water after 4 weeks... it was to help with his hiccups at first-- but hten he just liked it!
the reason they dont push it is b/c you cant supplement it for food--- other wise a taste here and there is ok.

Ava's been drinking water since she was just a couple of months old, I don't notice a difference in her eating, but then again, she's almost always had water, so I might not notice the difference. You coudl always try it.
