GIVIng Benedryl
I have a quick quick question. Sara has a cold and being that medication like dimatapp is not recommended anymore do you think it is ok to give Benedryl? I really want her to get a good night sleep as she is a terrible sleeper. By the way Sara is a bit over 2 years old.

Re: GIVIng Benedryl
I think the same reason they say to not give Dimetapp, triaminic, etc. is bc they are not effective for what ails the child and are given incorrectly often. So honestly, I don't see giving Benedryl as any different. But - as a parent, I can understand what you are saying about wanting her to get a good night's sleep when she is miserable. Q - Do you know that she doesn't end up hyperactive from Benedryl, bc I know that's common. I haven't used Benedryl with my kids but I know it happens with my niece. I would probably try to do humidifier, putting extra pillow under mattress to elevate it and maybe a warm bath before doing Benedryl. I hope she feels better soon.

i wouldn't give benadryl for sleep - it can actually have the opposite effect on many children.

Re: GIVIng Benedryl
My PEd ok'd benadryl for stuffiness for colds/congestion and he NEVER ever would allow me to give cold meds. They dont' want any kids under 6 to have cold meds.
So i elevate the mattress, run cool mist humidifier and when they are very congested they get benadryl for the stuffiness and to stop post nasal drip at night.
I wouldn't give it though just to make them drowsy, it's still meds :)
Hope DC feels better soon
