Girls with IR
Those with IR, do you ever monitor your blood sugar to see if the metformin is lowering your sugar levels??

Re: Girls with IR
nope--but that might be a good idea, huh?
The thought of sticking myself with needles every day makes me want to vomit. I know there are worse things in the world, but I'm still getting over my fear of needles

Re: Girls with IR
I never did, but the doctor and I discussed it.
We also discussed that there is probably a need for me to be screened at least yearly for diabetes.

Re: Girls with IR
I dont think insulin resistance would show in finger stick because it measures the glucose in your blood. IR is pre-diabetic, not diabetes. I am not 100% sure about this but I know the blood test they use to diagnosis the two is different.

Re: Girls with IR
If your BS is showing on tests as high, then its possible to test yourself, but IR can show normal Glucose levels and only a Dr's blood test will show the elevated Insulin. So even home testing cant show you what your insulin levels are.

Re: Girls with IR
Thanks for your replies.
The reason I wanted to know if you tested was NOT to measure your insulin level, but rather your glucose level. I've been feeling light headed/dizzy after taking my 1500mg and was wondering if the meds were causing my sugar to drop at all.....Does that make sense??

Re: Girls with IR
Metformin does not cause hypogycemia (low blood sugar). Thats one of the reasons its the most commonly prescribed drug for diabetes.
