Girls who had IF treatment

I just finished my first IVF and am pregnant!!

I am still on quite a bit of my medications, including the estraderm patch. Did anyone develop a rash from them? I have large, red, itchy/raw "welts". I am going to the RE to get them checked out, but in the meantime, I am freaking out. The nurse told me I shouldn't be concerned (with regards to my pregnancy) and could just be having an allergic reaction to them. I hope this is the case and it's not something else.

I just looked up some info on the internet about side effects (including the rash) and came across many warnings that said "if you are pregnant, you should not be using the estraderm patch" - Then why am I still on it? Any help would be GREATLY appreciated!! Chat Icon

Ask if you could switch to the pills.

Re: Girls who had IF treatment

I had a really bad rash the first IVF cycle, which didn't take. On the second cycle, they told me to try the patches again, and again I had the rash. However, after about 3 days on the patches, I was put on oral medication. Second cycle, I got pregnant, but had a miscarriage 6 weeks later. Third cycle, I insisted on the oral medication from the beginning, and so far so good. I'm 27 1/2 weeks with a Chat Icon
Good luck and congrats!

Thanks for the info! They mentioned putting me on the estrogen pills instead. I am going in tomorrow to have it checked out.

This rash can't affect my pregnancy at all? I am so worried it's going to do something to harm the baby Chat Icon

Re: Girls who had IF treatment

As far as I know, the rash is not harmful to the baby, but why should you be so uncomfortable. Switch to the pills. What's one more pill along with all the others, lol.

I totally agree! I'd much rather take the pills at this point! I am just a paranoid prego who is worried that this might be a "sign" that something is wrong!!

How long were you on estrogen for? And I read online that you should NOT take estraderm if you are pregnant - Does this apply only to women who haven't gone through fertility treatments?

Thanks for all your help Chat Icon

Re: Girls who had IF treatment

I was never on estraderm patch so I can't give you any advice. Can they switch you to something else? I used PIO and suppositories until 13th week and then I ran out of the suppositiries and used cinone for the 14th week. I've been off everything ever since.
