Girls Taking Metformin...

Last time I took Metformin was 5 years ago, so I don't remember all the symptoms. I just started a few days ago - 1500mg a day.

Already feeling big loss of appetite, stomach irritation (barely can eat anything), loss of energy, dizziness, and bloating.

Is this normal? I remember the loss of appetite and stomach irritation from last time around - but not the loss of energy, dizziness and bloating. Bloating is pretty bad - had two people yesterday ask me if I was pregnant.

Re: Girls Taking Metformin...

I didn't really have much bloating. If anything my belly was flat because I was going to the bathroom 3 times a hr!! I had a terrible time adjusting with Metformin. I increased my dose slowly starting with 500 then 750 then 1,000, then 1500. Can you try that? Are the other symptoms you're feeling from another med? I'd keep hydrated and mention it to your RE.

Thanks! I was suppose to start around 750mg but he said if I felt fine I can up it to 1500mg. First few days on 750mg was fine so I just upped it recently, and ever since doing that I'm getting all the affects.

why don't you drop it back down to 1000 and see how you do on that for a few days? maybe the increase from 750 to 1500mg was just to much to soon, KWIM?

Each pill is 750mg, so I could just drop back down to 750mg, but of course the stubborness in me thinks if I keep it up at 1500mg that the results would come in quicker :-/

Re: Girls Taking Metformin...

They do make them in 500s if you can ask for another script. That's how I was able to slowly increase my dosage. I had so many scripts of Met from generic to different sizes, everything!
