"Gifting up?"
Wherever I worked (which has always been large firms) the idea of gifting up (buying your boss a holiday gift) was "taboo" but bosses always got their staff small presents. Is this idea still followed in large companies? Does everyone get their boss a holiday gift?

Us sales reps are getting a combine gift for our manager. Not sure if my assistant is getting me something yet.

I dont work in that type of environment anymore, but when I did no one was allowed to "gift up", but "gifting down" was expected.

Yes, I do buy for my boss and his family. They are so very generous with me and even bring me gifts home from their vacations, so it's the one time of the year that I can give him a gift.

At my job we gift just within our own department (about 10 people), but that includes the bosses too.

When I worked for a large company we would all chip in and get something for the boss. We would usually chip in like $5 each.

I do, although I know you are not supposed to. Its just the way I am. I have been here for 5 years so I cant stop now but when and if I ever get a different job no one is getting a thing!

My old boss asked me not to give him anything but I would sometimes bring in some baked goods or something like that. I wouldn't get anything for the current guy.
