gift for bosses
I need gift ideas for my boss and my semi boss. This is my first christmas at this job and they have both been unbelievably good to me (days off, leaving early, bringing my kids into office etc). About $50 each.
My main boss I'm also getting personalized sticky notes because she is always saying she wishes she had some. ETA: they are both female. One is 50ish, the other early 60s.

Re: gift for bosses
Are they into wine or some kind of booze like Scotch, Whiskey etc?
Or a gift card to a local restaurant?

Re: gift for bosses
my boss doesn't drink.
some things i've gotten are: amazon echo dot -- on sale! (this year so shhhh LOL) decorative plate (work themed) with 3 slots so each one i filled with a theme- coffee w/ gc, candy w/ gc., music w/ gc. dog related gifts (the kind he has) boat related gifts (big boat fan) movie related gifts (big movie fan) racing related gifts (another hobby)
it's so freaking hard it's usually the last gift i get LOL plus he goes away the week btwn xmas & new years so timing is tough too!!!
usually pier one is a good place to get ideas. i would say half of them came from here!
ETA i remembered the other theme

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I didn't think you were supposed to gift up. But, if you want to show appreciation, I'd get some sort of food/beverage and stay away from actual gifts.

Re: gift for bosses
I used to buy them some nice coffee table books for stuff that interested them but now I buy edible stuff for them..although this year I am thinking of donating to a charity that they are involved in.

You shouldn't be giving gifts to your bosses. The rule is you gift down, not up. Meaning you gift the people under you, not on top of you. But if you are going to regardless, I'd stick with something edible, like chocolate, cookies, fruit or the like.

Re: gift for bosses
My boss doesn't even gift down...so I certainly don't gift him. He doesn't buy any of us anything..not even a cheap box of chocolate. He's a real winner

This is what my dad always told me. But in my office, we always do it. It's a group gift though. But so annoying to try and figure out what to get.

I was taught not to gift up too and I dont think it should be done. In my old office, the new team wanted to and I never liked the idea. My supervisor always seems uncomfortable with us giving her gifts and GC. In that same company with my old team, that was never done

Re: gift for bosses
I realize gifting up is not typical but it is not a corporate type of office. It is only 3 of us in our building/department. Both women have been extremely good to me, so its something I really want to do for them.
