Gift for at 50th bday party?
We are going to a 50th bday party on Saturday night for someone on DH's side of the family. He isn't a direct relative, but DH's cousin's cousin on the other side of the family. The party is in some kind of hall, and from what I understand, the guest of honor's wife is doing all the cooking. We are not terribly close with him, but see him for several holidays at DH's aunt's house during the year. We have NO idea what to get as a gift! Any thoughts?

Perhaps a gift certificate to a nice restaurant? Or a nice bottle of wine or liquor?

My father and I just threw my mom a surprise 50th party, and a majority of her gifts were gift certificates to restaurants and spas. She also received a bunch of bottles of wine as well.

Thanks...wine was at the top of my list. I was hoping to be somewhat more original, but I don't think I'm going to be!
