Gift for 40yo man
My good friend is throwing her DH a surprise 40th birthday party this weekend. Party is black tie.
What is an appropriate amount to spend on a gift?
I was thinking $100-200? Her DH likes the Redskins. Also likes to play basketball. He grills a lot too.
Which would you choose? A. Patagonia rain jacket B. North Face fleece C. Patagonia fleece D. Ralph Lauren pullover E. Redskins themed gifts - coffee mug, tumbler, grill set
Her DH is very tall (6'7" I think) so I'm not exactly sure what size he would be. He is also thin like a basketball player build.

Re: Gift for 40yo man
I would do the Redskins themed gift because I wouldn't want to mess up the clothing size. I would say $100 is good.

Re: Gift for 40yo man
My DH is 6'8" and it's so hard to buy clothes for him. A jacket isn't so bad, since you can layer up underneath or leave it open, but I'd probably go with the Redskins themed gifts.
ETA: I'd probably spend around $100.

Re: Gift for 40yo man
I would go with one of the fleeces with a gift receipt.
Imo those themed gifts people don't always use everything in it. My dh got a giants themed bbq set, but he really liked the one he already had ya know.

Does he wear XXL?
DH absolutely loves the recent Patagonia gear that I have bought him over the past year. He even wears it to work with a shirt and tie underneath.

This is what I was leaning towards. I could go to Nordstroms so he could exchange easily.

My DH is the same build - he wears an XXL in North Face.

He usually wears XL. The problem is as the sizes go up, the clothes get wider, not longer. So some of the clothes he gets are big on him, but still too short.

Personally I would go with the Redskins items. I always feel funny buying clothing for other adults.

Gift for 40yo man
The Vineyard Vines store near me sells belts with the NY teams on them. If you could find a Redskin one, it is a good gift for a guy, along with a nice bottle of wine or liquor he likes.

I texted my friend to ask for her DH's size. She said please don't buy him clothes. She said no gifts necessary.
DH is going to buy some good liquor for him, probably scotch.
