Gift / $$$ -what would you give? (Not a wedding/communion etc question lol)
DH & I will be going away for a week at the end of the month. MY 17 yr old SS is staying home. A good friend of mine will be coming over and staying at our house, to keep an eye on things, keep him company and be there for SS if he needs anything (SS is a really good kid and pretty self-sufficient - gets up for school by himself, etc - but I would not want to leave him home alone for a week). For the most part, they will have dinner together and hang out together at night - watch tv etc.(SS really likes my friend and enjoys spending time with her). We will have food on hand for them to eat (she's not really into cooking) and leave money for them to get pizza or whatever, a couple of nights, so that she doesn't have to worry about that.
I want to do something for her when we get back - either get her a gift or give her $. So, would you get her a gift or give her money? Either way, what gift or how much $ would you give?

I wouldn't give $$, I would do a gift. Knowing me, I would probably do a nice bottle of wine or two if she's into that... or maybe take her out for a nice meal. Something along those lines.

I would get her a gift card to her favorite nail salon if she is in to that, or a gift card for a massage if she enjoys that.
If not, maybe a nice restaurant gift certificate.
I generally do gift cards for favors like that.

I would give a gift in the $100 range (if that is within your budget). I watched friends kids for a weekend (small children) and as a thank you they gave me a really nice bracelet. Something she knew I would like but not necessarily go out and buy. I was very surprised because I really was not expecting anything at all.
So I would say a gift. Something she would like but not buy herself or gift certificate toward something she would want/use.

I would give her a gift card for nails/massage/facial, something like that.
or for a restaurant if she's not into the spa thing.
and I would pick her up a small gift to go with it. bottle of wine, hand cream, candle, something like that.
or if you see something when you're away that you think she'll like get that.
basically what everyone already said.

This is what I would do, and depending on what it was (sometimes I just bring back, coffee or food), maybe also a GC, or send a basket to her house after the fact.

I would do a GC to a spa or restaurant for $200 or something like that if she is staying at your house for a week.

It might be awkward giving her money. I think you're better off giving her a nice gift. I'd get her a nice souvenir on my trip that I know she'd be into (whether it be jewelry, scarf, decor item, food.. whatever she's into) and then you can get her a gift card to go with it (spa, salon, or to a store she likes to shop according to her tastes). You mentioned that she's not into cooking, maybe you can get her a gift card to her favorite takeout place or restaurant.
