GHI, Dr.B. and IVF....

Background: We are 15+ months trying, 2 failed IUI's with unexplained infertility.

I brought up wanting to move on to IVF to Dr. B. on our last visit. I am beyond frustrated at this point and i just have always had a gut feeling we would need IVF. DH calls his insurance (GHI), because mine, blue Cross does not cover ivf at all. They say they DO cover it and that when the time comes to call a different number to inquire about coverage ?!

When i told Dr. B this he said, they DO cover it but they have many "requirements" ONE being to have a min. of 4 IUI's. Has anyone gone thru this before with their insurance company?

I know i am VERY fortunate to have any covrage, i just can't help but get anxiety about the time frame...we are not getting any younger, times is a ticking and i am afraid that all their "requirements" will now take additional months and months. I really wish i started this sooner !

I applied for an IVF grant and yes they had the same stipulation. So from Sept last year thru nov. (i have short cycles) i had 4 iui's which all failed. during my ivf they did a water sono and couldnt see anything so i had to have a hsg in which they found 4 very large polyps lining uterus. Well my re said that was the reason i wasnt getting pregnant. I had to have all the polyps removed. Ask your Re about a hsg if you havent had one recently. and good luck.

I thought you had to have an HSG before IUI or IVF? To see if your tubes are blocked? I already had that test.

Thank you. I hope the rest of trying for you goes quite well. You said you had 2 iui cycles were they natural or medicated? All 4 of mine were natural... two had ovidrel but that was all. I hope everything goes quickly for you and you get your BFP soon.

I was medicated for both (femara and ovidrel) and i did just a femara - timed BDing cycle, before those.

well if you have to two more.. i hope for BFP for you or really quick cycles. I had my first iui on 9-4, 2nd on 9-29, 3rd on 10-25 and last one on 11-21. I started ivf with BCP on 1-25 but had a few side steps, so ER was 3-13 and ET was 3-16. You will be surprised once you start how quickly the time can go by.
