Gettsyburg?
Is it worth a quick weekend trip? Getting there on a friday night and leaving sunday afternoon? Is there much to do? We don't have kids, so I don't know if that limits activities for us or not...

I did that once with DH. We went friday night and came bac Sunday to take photos for my photography class - you really only need one day. Although you can walk around and extend it if you want to.
There is a narration you can buy and listen to as you drive around. I think it took like 2-3 hours. Then you can get out and walk around at several locations. If you are interested in history it was a good weekend trip.

Re: Gettsyburg?
We didn't really do any of the museums except for the things they offer at the visitors center (I think it was a movie and I forget what else this was like 10 years ago).
They offer a self guided audio tour (CD that you purchase at the visitors center - the info should be on their website) and you just pop it into your car and it guides you through the park. It told stories of the battles, and instructed you where to pull over and get out and what you were seeing etc. It was worth getting.
I had been there before in high school when I was looking at colleges so I had done some of those museums back then. So I really just wanted to do the tour and take pictures of some of the monuments.
etd to add if you go to the gettysburg visitor center you can find a link to their bookstore. From there you can get an idea of what self guided audio tours they have available. It looks like they are about $20-30. Honestly they are pretty good because they let you know what you are looking at.

That sounds really fun! How long is the drive to get there?

It is about 4 hours - depending on how fast you drive or if you hit traffic.

Re: Gettsyburg?
DH and I did it 2 years ago with another couple. We had a really great weekend!
We stayed at the Brickhouse Inn, highly recommend.
We ate at the Dobbin House--also recommend that.
We had a CD driving tour that we used and it was perfect for what we needed.
