getting to the airport...?

my family and i are going on vacation in a few weeks and have no idea how we're going to get to the airport yet ...

there's going to be four adults and 6-month-old DS (note that we are not taking his carseat with us on the plane) ... and probably a ton o' suitcases and carryons.

obviously we can't have anybody drive us there because we won't all fit in one car. we were thinking of possibly taking two cars but that feels like overkill.

So help us out - what's the alternative?

Oh - this is to JFK and we'd need to get there by 9:30am (give or take).

What about the blue airport shuttle van that can pick you up? Or call ahead for two cabs to take you? Or a car service (more $$)

Where are you coming from?

I think I might take my DC in my car, so I know they are safely in the carseat and strapped in. Maybe 2 adults can ride in there, and the other 2 can take a cab?

I'm personally not comfortable not using a carseat, but if you're ok with that, you can probably find an airport shuttle that is van sized and will fit all of you and your luggage.

We are going to do a car service. They are $, but will even have carseats for us!

We did a car service. It was so easy and convenient!

I would do a car service and bring the carrier car seat - then when you get to the airport check the car seat - it checks free - this way you have it for any ride to and from the airport

at 6 months is would be really hard not having a car seat for travel

at 18 months I have gone without in car service but even that was always a little worrisome

car service - or the air train if you have a carrier for the baby so you'll still have 2 hands free.

DH and I ALWAYS take the air train to JFK - w/ a 2 and 4 year old it's not really the ideal way to go - we're going to take car service

Car service was the best. We put DS carseat in the Limo, the car service held it in storage for us while we were away and picked us up with the car seat in the car already.

Was so easy and worry free

i should have clarified that we're going to visit family so they will have a car seat for us at our destination. That's why we're not going to be bringing one to the airport.

Also, i definitely will not go in any car (and ESPECIALLY not in a cab) without a carseat for DS.

I guess i'll call some car services and see what they have.

Any recommendations on those?

We take our car and leave it in long term parking since we need their carseats to get to the airport, but don't bring them with us.

We have done long term parking...it's a pain but we have no one to take us to the airport and whatnot. What would be ideal is to leave enough time to have DH drop me, DD and all our luggage at ticketing and then he goes to park the car but we haven't done it yet and just managed it both times in LT parking. It's not so terrible and we have had 2 suitcases, stroller, carseat, 2 carry ons and DD in the ergo!
