Getting rid of bamboo....?

We met with a guy for poison ivy removal of our property and he mentioned that the bamboo on our property was a HUGE issue. That it spreads throughout the lawn and can even travel to and crack the foundation of the house. He showed us sprigs that are cropping up in different parts of the lawn that were more than 20 ft away from where it was planted.

Is this a scare tactic to get us to remove it, or is bamboo really terrible to have?? The price to remove it is INSANE...but maybe it's necessary?!

Bamboo is the devil! Some towns are banning it. Definitely not a scare tactic.

It's not a scare tactic, you need to get rid of it! It does a lot of damage.

Hell is no longer fire and brimstone because one bamboo shoot got down there a few years ago, and is now overrunning everything! Chat Icon Chat Icon

I've had it in my yard since before I moved in. All I can do is try and keep it at bay, but I can't get rid of it. No matter what I do, it keeps coming back.

No he is not lying…hopefully Babalina answers this post because she is dealing with this now. I think she actually went through her insurance company because she has such a bad problem.

Good luck Bon. It's awful. I'll ask a family friend in the landscape business what the cost of removal is (typical for industry) and let you know.

Re: Getting rid of bamboo....?

I remember this being in the media fairly recently that it's become illegal in most towns and you can be fined big time.

I'm sure it costs a lot to get rid of it because it's not an easy job to do by any means.

A friend of a friend just went through this and it cost $20,000 to remove it. The roots were penetrating the foundation Chat Icon

Dear lorddddd!

We got quoted $3800 for removal of ours and a underground bamboo barrier to prevent our neighbor's bamboo from coming over.

Correct...insurance will do nothing to help unless it damages your foundation. In my case, it's spreading fast, I removed alot myself and the lil pos bamboo runner roots are actually sprouting again from the trash bag! Anyhow a trench on the perimeter of the property needs to be dug up, at LEAST 3ft deep. Material that these runners cannot break thru needs to be put in place. My lawn needs to be dug up and removed at least 1/2 a foot. New soil, seeded lawn vs sod. Got a quote for $2500. In my case I didnt plant it, it's coming from a neighbors yard and now not just into mine....needless to say it's getting ugly.

Wowwww. So sorry!

Our neighbors have it too. Not sure if the previous owners of OUR house put it in or our neighbors put it in...but, we're looking at $1800 to remove it and $2000 for the barrier.

The barrier is quoted at being 80 ft long x 3 ft deep x .04 thick. The removal is 60 ft x 20 ft. Is your quote for removal and the barrier? How much do you need taken out? Can you tell me who your quote is from?

My concern is that I pay all this money to have it done and then the effers make their way back. Chat Icon

Im in Queens so its def not huge. Im looking at 39 ft in length for the trench. And this is the cheapest quote I received bc its. Landscaper thats a friend of a friend and a favor is owed. Otherwise it be easy over 10k

This stuff is awful. We had it at our last house. Almost impossible to completely remove. As others have said, you need to dig deep and then put the barrier in to contain it.
