Getting gas on Staten Island
I am disgusted!!
My brother, who works for Sanitation, lost his home and is staying at his inlaws. He went to get gas to get to work, paid his $45 and was next in line when 4 different cars were told to go ahead of him and FILL UP - SUVs $80 TANKS. He realized quickly that they were sisters and friends of the police officers who were watching the gas station. He also watched a man with a small gas can try to get gas in front of one of the police officers family members and was turned away completely because he was mad that they were able to fill and everyone else was being told $10 and thats it.
My brother approached the woman who he gave the $45 to and said he paid and people are using HIS GAS. She apologized and told the owner who said Fcuk him, give him $10 worth and send him away.
He told the owner to give him back his $45 and he'd walk home and have to call out from work. Said it was ridiculous that unless you know a police officer who is watching that station you cant get gas. So of course one of the cops then approached him and was yelling at him and told him to leave and if he said another word he would "Slap cuffs on him" saying he didnt care if he was in uniform or not.
COULD YOU IMAGINE??? He didn't get the cops name because he was so irate, he didn't even think. I WISH I could get to Staten Island and go back to that station with him and record that ********* cop doing this.
I will be getting the name of the station with exact location and will be planning to boycott from future use of that station. I will also work hard to find out which officers were on duty at that particular time and place to see what IAB has to say about this

Report them. Even if he doesn't know the cops name, the precinct knows who is working. I'd be calling 311 too on this.

Yes the police have been doing all they can,
but THIS was just WRONG on all levels.

I'm so angry about this. The poor guy left his home just in time with 1 uniform for work and the t-shirt and sweats he had on. He has had no time to help getting insurance people out to assess his house because he has been working crazy hours with sanitation to help clean up.
I hope so hard that Karma bites those police officers as well as their selfish family members in the ass.
I will be following up on this.

He didn't tell me. I called him today to find out and he couldn't talk because he was meeting FEMA at his house. Waiting to hear back on what happened and I will get the name and location of that gas station!

I think the confusing part is that usually you are at the pump when you go to pay, not before you pull up to it. But, I know that with the crazy lines at the gas stations, things are running differently at some. Also, the only time I've ever heard of paying after filling up is when it's full serve. Self serve you always pre-pay.
And it's really effed up what happened to your brother.

How does he know that they were sisters and friends of the officers? Does he know that they were not FDNY, EMS, or NYPD? First responders have been given priority at designated stations, with either their own lines, the ability to move ahead in line, or specific stations which will only provide gasoline to first responders with identification.

He was sitting there in his car listening to the cops telling the owner to "Let my sister in and she gets to fill up" Laughing and joking while people are freezing waiting all day in line. That's how. One was another's cousin and so on. He got fed up after the 4th person sent ahead of him and that's where the cop got pissed.
My brother works for the city and was trying to get to work for the cleanup, which he has been doing since Tuesday... even with his house pretty much gone.
We are not the type to point fingers or make things up just because. He called me last night beyond enraged and needed me to calm him down.

I know people whose cars are filled up because they have family in FDNY, NYPD, etc. It's not just bec. the first responder needs that car or the gas to get to work either. They are the lucky ones by having a relationship with them, that's it. But to let his sister go in front like that is wrong. It's that mentality that kills me.
