getting front door installed question
If you purchased your door at Lowes or Home Depot, did you use anyone else to install your front door? DH and I liked a door that was about $450 at Lowes, and we wanted to see what it would cost w/ installation. Well we paid about $50 for a guy to come measure it (i believe this fee was non refundable) and now they are saying they want nearly $700 just to install it and plus our door now has to be special ordered, bringing the total up to 2k! Not sure if this is a ploy for them to make more money, but I was just wondering if anyone had ever hired a handyman or someone else before to install the door and if they charged you a more reasonable rate. Thanks!

Call my guy and get an estimate
Keith Scalza S&K Installations 631-331-4149
we bought our door from HD and he installed it. He is a fantastic installer, very neat and is very reliable. We had a few outside doors as well as all of our interior doors installed by him.

You could try a contractor, they might charge you less, but that is generally what happens with this stuff. The price doesn't include anything else. If you are in no rush can't hurt to call around

Re: getting front door installed question
we had looked into getting doors from home depot and either using them or a handyman we knew to install. it was going to cost about $350 a door for installation from the handyman and a little bit more from home depot. so i guess it also depends on the type of door you are getting. just when you think you are saving yourself money, something else comes into play!
we wound up just getting our doors from elegant entries.

We're paying $600 for labor to install a sliding door in the back of our house. I was shocked to hear how much the labor costs as well!
We're having a contractor install it.
