Getting An Accident Report

DH was in an accident Wednesday on the Belt Parkway. Someone hit him from behind. The police & EMS came and filled out a report. DH called the precient now to get the accident # a copy of the report for the insurance company and the officer who answered told him that he needed to give a $10 money order in order to have the report processed. Is that true?

Yes, it's true! ETS that although it's quicker for him to get it (plus you want a copy too), he can also provide that info to the insurance carrier and they can get it. But I would suggest that you get it.

Thanks. I never heard of that. DH is calling the insurance company now to give them all the info.

city cop here... all he NEEDS is to obtain nthe accident report number, which he can do for free over the phone. he then gives the number to the ins co and they can obtain the report themselves. if they tell you they can't, they're lying.
if he wants a copy of the report for his own records, he needs to go to the precinct with a $10 money order.

Yes. I had to go in person and pay $10, for the hit and run someone did to my car last year. the insurance companys want the report.

eta: just read above poster, didnt know they could do that. I wanted my copy b/c i wanted the person who hit my cars info, since they arrested her around the block.
