Getting a Masters Degree on line?
It has been a dream of mine for a long time to receive a Masters in Arts or design... However, I have come to a realization that my only chance of doing it is on line, unless I am willing to wait another 10 years for it.
So, how does that work exactly? Do those on line degree count the same way as a "regular" degree? Does it matter where you get it from? This is a very new concept to me and I can't say I understand it in it's entirety. If anyone who knows ANYTHING about the subject, I would greatly appreciate input!!

Re: Getting a Masters Degree on line?
It depends on where you get it from. Some schools actually show it as being an online degree while other's do not. I was looking into finishing my masters through Boston University's online program, but honestly, I think I'd rather bust my hump and do it in person around here because from what I know, it's a ridiculous amount of time to do online degree work. It said to put aside 50 hours a week to do this particular program, but i'm sure many other programs are different. HTH

It also depends on how many classes a semester you take. 50 hours is absolutely ridiculous for someone that works fulltime which is the typical person doing an online program.
I'm in my second masters program (not online) and only going part time. You can do the same with online programs.

Re: Getting a Masters Degree on line?
I took a few online classes this fall for a new certification to my teaching degree, they were through adelphi....
my disclaimer, I do not shy away from working hard for a grade, I have two masters I earned while going to school f/t and working f/t...but the classes this fall kicked my butt, there was much more work than I thought, more than was waranted...it was insane and I doubt I would ever do an online course again....which says alot since I am a school nerd (the joke amongst my friends is that I should be a dr being as though I went to school for so long for all my degrees!)

Re: Getting a Masters Degree on line?
I think it would also depend on the school you decide to get the degree through. If its a reputable school, then I def think its worth it. I would tend to stay away from certain schools that are infamous for offering their online classes, as some professions wouldn't consider the degree as creditable.
I also have to agree with the previous posters regarding the work load. I've taken several online courses in the past and they do tend to assign much more work than a typical class in exchange for not having to meet on a weekly basis.

Re: Getting a Masters Degree on line?
I am doing my MBA online through Kaplan University. I work for Kaplan so I get a large discount on the tuition.
I think it is becoming more acceptance to earn your degree online. I actually think it's harder because I have to be a great written communicator since you can't communicate your ideas/answers orally. In addition, I have a much wider exposure to ideas since I have classmates from all over the country as opposed to only Long Islanders.
There is a LOT of work, but I also do not have an online seminar, so I don't have to sit through a class. DH is doing a certificate program online and he actually has a class each week to watch. We get one week to complete our assignments, which include posting on the discussion board, papers, etc.
