Getting a Coldsore - Update

Update for future preggo cold sore sufferers ....

So I had a call into my Dr's office when I wrote this and they finally got back to me. I am allowed to use abreva, as needed but my Dr also called in a script for Valacyclovir.



Is there anything I can do about it? I already looked into abreva and the website said there are no studies on how it effects a pregnant woman.

my only advice is to be proactive. If you feel it's coming, ice it or put some balm on it.
If it has already surfaced, you will just have to wait it out. They can usually come and go in a few days if you don't mess with it. Pharmacies like CVS sell this thing that "zaps" it but I don't know if you can take it during pregnancy.

I hear zinc is good for treatment. And that balm that comes in a blue container (i forget the name)

I had one early in my pregnancy. My doctor said he preferred I just let it do it's course, but he said as a last resort to use abreva. I used it maybe once a day for 2 or 3 days.
I would call your doc and ask if there is anything you can take, especially since there isn't much info on pregnant woman using abreva. HTH
