Speaking of GMOs, this is not sitting well with me either!

Genetically Engineered Salmon Nears FDA Approval

What bothers me:
"The end result is a fish that tastes like an Atlantic salmon but grows twice as fast, making it cheaper to produce and sell. Because the FDA likely won't require a label that says the salmon was genetically modified, consumers won't know the difference."

If they approve this I will just have to stick with Wild Alaskan salmon for DH.

It is so scary that they can get away with this.

farm raised salmon doesn't have any of the health benefits of wild caught

this will be even worse

disgusting. I won't eat it. I won't spend my $$$ on food experiments - added a different salmon gene AND an eel gene???!!! there is just something fundamentally wrong with that.

I eat both Eel & Salmon.
Don't know why they need to mix the genes.
I'm torn.

I would prefer NOT have genetically enhanced ANYTHING. On the other side, I am sickened how we overfish.

I agree with PP about farm raised vs wild health benefits.

:(

I find this frightening.

Also, my DH and I each keep kosher to a certain degree. We do not eat eel. I wonder if this new frankenfish would be considered kosher. Kosher fish need to have fins and scales, which this would. Very interesting...
