Genetic testing and Fragile X, UPDATE
Hi Ladies, I was hoping for a better first post on this board, but here goes! I am 8 wks pregnant
I have seen my doctor once, they ran a lot of testing and just called to tell me that I am a carrier for Fragile X and have to see a genetic counselor. I have an appt for Friday.
I am scared It could be nothing or it could be a big deal.
Any prayers or thoughts would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
UPDATE: We saw the counselor and everything is fine. I am at the lowest end of the "grey" area, which means our child will not be affected by Fragile X. I also saw my OB, things are going great and he moved my due date up by 4 days. I am not 9 weeks, due 9/16

Re: Genetic testing and Fragile X
Congratulations I was also marked for Fragile X syndrome. I was in the "grey" zone. so it was not something that would affect my child or my grandchildren but it is something to mention to them when they get to their child bearing years. When we were contacted we met with a genetic counselor who did an extremely thorough intake. Discussed the test results in detail. They also did some testing on DH. Did you get any details with regards to your tests yet?

Not yet, when the nurse called me today she told me that she wasn't permitted to tell me anything other than I am a carrier :/ I have an appt Friday, so I just need to get through tomorrow. I have been reading up on this and am praying for that gray zone. I am trying not to get nervous that the nurse didn't volunteer any additional info.

I know how nervous you are because I was there also but one thing I will tell you STOP LOOKING ON THE INTERNET!!!!!!!! you will drive your self completely nuts!!!!!!! I know it is easier said then done but try to relax and wait for the appointment on friday. I was a complete and total mess when I got the call (and I did genetic testing prior to even getting pregnant) but you should really try to not stress right now until you have all the information. Good Luck on your appointment and if you have any questions prior to your appointment or after your appointment feel free to ask me anything.

Re: Genetic testing and Fragile X
If it's a grey zone they should tell you it's a grey zone . You should ask and find out for sure. I got a call from my OBs office few days ago, was told I was in grey zone, no risk to the baby only bc it's a grey zone, BUT they said to inform my siblings. But then it turned out that it was possibly a mistake or a mix up at the lab, my new OB is trying to figure out what happened. I have had 2 previous pregnancies and I was negative with both pregnancies (2 different drs/2 different labs) Good luck with everything.
