Generic formula question

Mikayla is using Enfamil AR...is there a generic that is similar to this (with rice in it to reduce spit up)?

TIA

Re: Generic formula question

i don't think there is a generic but you can add the rice in yourself.. i know its a much smoother consistency with the AR but people used to do it this way before AR existed.Chat Icon

Hmmmm, I never thought of doing this....so what type of formula would you buy? how much rice would you put in? Is that ok to do (put in the rice)...Mikayla is almost 3 months old....

That is a great idea but I need some guidance....Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

I don't know about adding rice. But the ingridents in Target and WalMart's formula are almost identical to regular Enfamil. The only difference I've noticed is that the formula is not as white and it is a little grittier, but Christopher does fine on both of those generics.

Re: Generic formula question

you would buy regular 20 calorie enfamil formula and add the rice... in the NICU we usually add 1 tsp rice to 1 oz formula but i would either read the concentration on the AR if they have it or ask your ped how much rice... because it can be very constipating. the best thing to do would be to make a few bottles a time and mix it REALLY good.. you'll probably need at least stage 2 nipples too for the rice to fit thru although if you are using advent i never had a problem. my son spit up so bad that he was on enfamil AR AND we had to add rice!
