I am looking for an affordable generator - just to run one large fridge, charge some cell phones and maybe power a lamp. . . any advice? I am looking at this one right now.

Re: Generator Help
If you think that sometime in the future you may have use for a generator again, I'd spend a little more, if you have the money. $300 and 1750 watts is probably the lowest end of the generator spectrum. If you can swing it, I'd go for at least a 3500 (running) watt generator for peace of mind. But it really all depends on your needs.

Re: Generator Help
Tilde I have one that is 5000 watts upstate. if you want it, you can totally borrow it free of charge.
I can't bring it down to you though. one of us will be up at the house tomorrow with the heating fixer guy and we will hopefully be up there for at least part of the weekend.
we paid $900 for ours and it's sitting in our garage right now. If you want to waste the $$ in gas, it's yours for the duration of time that you need it.

That is SO nice of you - thank you so much! We have power, this would be just for emergency usage -- I felt so helpless during the storm, waiting for the power to go out. . . I really want to have a back up.

OH duh. I thought your hair was a grease ball and AM was being bathed in a pot like soup.
ftiw, it IS a worthy investment to do on a 0% card. I would not get one less than 3000, like the deedle said.

Re: Generator Help
I would advise a natural gas generator over a gasoline powered one...It is a pain in the butt compared to the natural gas one we have.
