GD test question

i just read on babycenter that the hour long GD tests are usually done between 24-28 weeks. Well, i'm 24 weeks and have a doctor's appointment tomorrow ... will she surprise me with the hour long GD test or will i get some advanced warning?

Thanks!

i believe its definitely something they will schedule you for and not surprise you with it. I know i would have to go to Quest to get it done...it takes awhile to do, so you need to be available to take it and i also believe you have to be fasting. Your OB will probably give you the script to get the test done at your next appt.

Re: GD test question

I just got the script for the lab at my last appt. I have to get it done sometime this week or next, so I'll be 25/26 weeks.

I agree that you most likelywon't be surprised with the test, bc while my dr. doesn't require me to fast, I know some want you to, and it does take an hour.

GD test question

thanks for the info!

i didn't realize it would require an extra appointment somewhere. i thought the dr does it at her office during a "regular" appointment. that stinks but oh well - not like i have a choice.

GD test question

Mine's done right before the 28 w appointment. So next visit after tomorrow's. They can't surprise you with it because you can't eat for at least an hour before (mine they told me no carbs or sweets for 8 hours before).

Mine was done at my regular 28 week appointment. At 24 weeks she gave me the drink to refrigerate and drink an hour before my appt along with a sheet of directions about fasting.

My doc did it at their office for the one hour. They also do teh three hour at their office but my schedule is screwy so had to go to the lab. You dont have to fast, but no carbs day of. YOu can fast, if you are doing it frist thing in the morning..
