GD problems (long)
So, I started testing 16 days ago.
My ketones are always negative. My after meal numbers are always perfect.
However, some of my fasting numbers are high. In the first 12 days, I had 3 high fasting numbers (highest being 95). I was sick, and given antibiotics by my ob/gyn and so, I think they overlooked those high numbers.
But yesterday I had a fasting number of 101 which is really high. I slept until 9 am though, and I was fasting for over 12 hours and figured I probably dipped so low that I went high. I was hoping it was a fluke.
The only advice the educator gave us last time regarding high fasting numbers, was maybe you need a snack, like cheese and crackers. (same as the suggestions usually found on this forum). So last night, after dinner- I was 109. An hour before bed, I had some cheese and crackers. 8 hours later, I test and I'm high again today! With a 92. I refuse to take insulin until they give me more options to try. Anyone have any other tricks they try to keep low fasting numbers?
Also, I barely sleep, I toss and turn all night... can that be a factor?

Re: GD problems (long)
I had the same problem. I tried waking up for a light protein snack, never quite got it below the number they wanted. They did eventually put me on medicine, pills, not insulin to help control the fasting numbers. i only took a small dose once at night at that helped a little bit.
Honestly, in the grand scheme of things while your numbers are above what they want. They're not that far off so they shouldn't rush to put you on insulin. Especially since you can control the other numbers.
one question to ask was what my nutritionist pointed out that some machines use platelets while others test whole blood. One of them allows for a number that is 10 higher than the normal. With my glucometer, I was allowed to go up to 100 with out them being concerned. But once i consistenlty got between 105- 110 i went on the oral medication.
