GD Diet Question/Guilt

For those of you who have and are on a GD diet, have you tried to slowly re-introduce foods and found that you can eat them w/o affecting BS levels?

I found that my body has kind of regulated itself, and I can get away with certain foods/carbs/sugars, and my #s are still below where they need to be. While part of me feels guilty, the other part doesn't know if I should as if it is not affecting BS, then is it really "cheating" so to speak?

Anyone else trying this and finding it is working, or have you stuck strictly to what your dr/nutrionist originally laid out for you?

Re: GD Diet Question/Guilt

I've totally been doing this. Although at times it does backfire on me, but not always, and the number isn't all that off my target number. Sometimes I just feel I really need to fill a craving otherwise I'll go crazy. I do have to send my numbers in weekly, and the GD nurse I deal with said I'm doing a great job, so I'm not really all that concerned, or feeling guility!

I will say.. I'm on Glyubide 2.5 mg (1/2 a pill) which I take at night before bed with my snack since my morning fasting numbers were higher than they wanted them to be. The nurse did tell me if on occassion especially with the holidays, I wanted to "splurge" I could take a 1/2 pill before that particular meal and enjoy myself. Which is exactly what I did on NYE, I also did on Christmas Day because I knew we were going to my favorite deli in the city and I wanted to EAT! I loved every minute of the "cheating"

Hope that doesn't make me a bad mommy to be!

My big splurge is 4 oz. of Tropicana in the morning and at night. My numbers stay on target so I'm enjoying it. Oh, the small pleasures on a GD diet!

Re: GD Diet Question/Guilt

I had GD and a carrot could send my # flying thru the roof so I did not have any luck with re-introducing foods. GD is all about #s. If your numbers are in a healthy and safe range then you are fine but just beware to continue to test and call your specialist if your numbers go low or high because that can be dangerous.
