Gas heat question
Because I am dumb!
And DH is at work.
I turned the heat on last night (or so I thought) and woke up freezing this morning.
The heat is still not coming on.
I called DH and he said he thinks it's something with the burner.
I am admitting that I don't know anything about this stuff. Is there anything I can do myself before I bother my FIL and ask him to come over here?
I went down in the basement and stared at the thing, but didn't know where to begin. I think it's probably a bad idea to start turning and playing with things I know nothing about.
TIA!

Re: Gas heat question
If you're not too sure I would def ask your FIL to come over. I know for us, we have to turn on the heat all the way up the first time of the season so that the boiler can turn on. Once we hear it coming on we put it at whatever temp we want.

Re: Gas heat question
If you turn on the thermostat and the burner isnt on - you wont get heat
if your burner is on but your thermostat is set too high you wont get heat
i would call and ask for help, i dont like to play around with gas! (can you hear the burner is it making an noise? that means its on)

Re: Gas heat question
With my gas heat we have a service contract and every year in the fall I set up an appointment for them to come and take a look at the burner and bleed the lines. This may be why you are not getting heat.
Do you have a service contract?

Re: Gas heat question
I do not.
I called National grid and got an automated message that they don't deal with this and to call a local service provider.
OK.
Who do I call? Any recs? I am in SS Western Suffolk.
FIL agreed that this is the gas company issue.

OK I am officially an idiot.
DS must've turned off the emergency switch which is located on his arm level when you go down the basement stairs.
In any event, FIL suggested we get a company to come out and service us yearly to avoid costly issues dtr.
Please let me know if you have any recs.
I googled and called one and the woman was not too helpful.

I have my service contract through Home Services (formerly Key Span). Their number is 877-600-4743.

Re: Gas heat question
I had to turn the switch on at the top of my stairs. I thought it was broken too!
