Gardening Help: Chrysanthemums?

I've heard chrysanthemums will live through the winter, but this has never worked for me. Is there anything you are supposed to do to them, like trim them when they start to wind down for the season?

TIA?

I would also love to know this as mine are all already dead, but then again, I have a black thumb when it comes to plants...

Re: Gardening Help: Chrysanthemums?

They are perennials so they should come back. This should help also.

I'm not sure why they wouldn't come back for you. Were they potted? Potted plants need more warmth than plants in the ground because the pot doesn't provide the same insulation.

We've already had our first frost so you can cut your Mums back to the ground. They don't like to be overly wet in the winter, so don't water them or leave them in a poorly draining area.

Good luck with the mums!

Thank you! I'll try cutting them back and see what happens. The ones in pots I expect to not come back, but I had them in the ground last year, and they looked dead after the frost and never came back the following spring. Maybe the drainage wasn't the best either, though other perennials did come back.

I'll see what happnes!

Be careful when you pull weeds in the spring...I have pulled my mums thinking they are weeds as they come back.
