Instead of me stalking them tomorrow am to give them a tip how else should I do it?

eekk... as long as it stays attached... doesn't fall into the can and get thrown out... and they see it!! or some homeless man doesn't find it first (although that wouldn't be HORRIBLE) ...
that sounds like a pretty big risk...

My garbage men send out a card telling us not to do that because too many times it gets stolen. I always have them ring my door bell.

I attempted this but they just dumped the can and never saw it. we freaked out because we though the card actually fell into the truck but thankfully it was still there
Best way is to put a not on the pail to ring your bell
then you can give it to them

They explicitly don't want you to do that. Too many envelopes get stolen. Many town garbagemen send out postcards stating this.

My guys gave a holiday card too and asked us to not leave anything in the can, but if no one is home for them to ring the bell, then what?

Leave a note on the can asking to call to the door and then another note on your door telling them where it is hidden maybe? It sounds like subterfuge, but it might work...

Last year I used blue painters tape and taped the envelope to the lid that morning. I knew they would be coming within the hour so I wasn't too concerned about it getting stolen.

and honey did..he waited almost an hour longer than the usual pick up. Garbage guys were very happy.

I guess every company is different because my guys sent a holiday post card stating, "If you wish to leave something. We'll appreciate if you leave it under the lid or hand it to us."
