Gaining too much too quickly...
I've been in a funk since yesterday and just need some advice and to vent a little...
Yesterday I had a regluar 29 week check up with my OB and as soon as I stepped on the scale I thought to myself "wow, I've gained 20 lbs already??" Now, I'm petite, I don't remember how much total I gained with my first but I know that a week after giving birth, I was only up 5 lbs from my start weight. So, 20 lbs sounded like alot given that I still have 2.5 months to go. Well, my OB confirmed my worry. Towards the end of the visit he said that he didn't want me to get worried but that I had gained 9 lbs since my last appointment a month ago. He said that maybe with the whole loss of electricity thing and Holloween passing that those could have been the culprits but for me to take it easy on the junk food from now on.
Here's the thing, I don't think I've been eating badly or out of the ordinary! And I'm not a big junk food eater either. Please don't think I'm starving myself now or will; I know that's not the right path to take for me or my baby. I just don't know what I should be eating now. I thought I wouldn't have a problem with weight gain since I didn't for my first but I guess it's true that all pregnancies are different. I knew something was off once I started to pop because my clothing started fitting less, sooner. So, this just confirms my worries.
So, am I over-reacting? Should I not worry so much since he says the baby is right on point with her health and weight (which I am so thankful for)? Are there any references for what I should be eating while pregnant?
Thanks so much for reading guys

I would say yes, over-reacting. If you are eating healthy sometimes people just gain more and gain at different parts of their pregnancy. I gained a lot of my weight early last time and then slowed down. Keep trying to eat healthy but don't make yourself crazy. . make sure you are drinking enough water too. . you don't need to add stress to your life or feel bad!

ITA its hard if not impossible to control what your body is doing during pregnancy. if you're eating healthy and drinking water, what else can you do? definitely dont stress over it, but don't go out and eat a pint of ice cream, kwim?!

Gaining too much too quickly...
I wouldn't worry too much. I had my 32 week appointment last night and was up about 8 lbs from my 28 week! I didn't think the scale was right! I really haven't changed my eating habits...if anything I'm eating better more salads; oatmeal for breakfast; more fruit. But my body is just packing on the lbs still! I was a little depressed about it before; but I figured I'm growing a healthy baby (3lbs 13oz right now) and LO needs the nutrients and apparently I have a lot of fluid so that can contribute to the scale increase! It's only 8 more weeks; and I plan to breastfeed so hopefully that will help burn some calories at the beginning. Weight Watchers will help take off the rest.

Re: Gaining too much too quickly...
20 lbs at 29 weeks is great in my opinion. I do not think it's gaining too much too quickly. You are in your 3rd trimester and have only gained 20 lbs. Your body is slowing down and retaining fat and fluids to sustain you through the rest of your pregnancy.
I wont even tell you how much I've gained at 27 weeks (way past 20 lbs, that's for sure), and I'm not that concerned (surprised, yes) and neither is my OB.
This is my second pregnancy and I know that my body is going to do what it needs to do during and after pregnancy. I welcome the changes to my body and to my weight because I know that I am growing a healthy baby inside.

Re: Gaining too much too quickly...
I continue to climb the scale at an alarming rate! Even scarier was at my last appt, the mw said this was definitely a small baby (I was convinced I was growing a dinosaur!). At this point in the pregnancy (32-weeks) I'm just growing to accept that this pregnancy is causing way more weight gain. As someone else mentioned, bf'ing will help and then there's always good ol' WW (and lots more points for nursing mamas!!). Of course, I could eat an entire pizza while nursing because I was always sooooo hungry - never really feel that way while pregnant.

I think you are doing great so far. I'm 29 weeks and have gained close to 20 pounds and my doctor isn't the least concern. In one month I gained 9 pounds and I work out 4-5 times a week. Your body is going to do what it needs to. I hate watching the scale go up but there's nothing I can do about it. Eat healthy and enjoy it.

At my 29 week I was up 23 lbs. I also gained most of it the previous month. My doctor was not concerned at all.

Re: Gaining too much too quickly...
I think every pregnancy and every person is different
Some gain while eating healthy some not and eat not healthy
If doc is not concerned I would not be,the number on the scale can just be a number

Re: Gaining too much too quickly...
I hate that women report that their doctors make comments on their weight. Unless there is a health issue, who cares? You're pregnant. I am 20 weeks and gained 20 pounds in the first four months and 4 pounds over the past month. I still wear a size six in maternity clothes-same as before. My dr never said one word.

Re: Gaining too much too quickly...
Everyone gains weight differently when pregnant. I ate really healthy and not too much and I gained 52 lbs! I think that is just how my body handles pregnancy. I didn't eat poorly or too much. My dr never said it was a concern. As long as you're healthy and so is baby, try not to worry or stress about the number on the scale!!!

Re: Gaining too much too quickly...
Your body will do what it needs to. I worked out 4 times a week, saw a personal trainer weekly, ate healthy and still gained 51 pds. It was extremely frustrating because i was working so hard to be in that "25-30" lbs range I was given, it became really stressful not having complete control of my weight despite my efforts. Meanwhile, i had a friend who ate so much and gained only 16lbs.

I see the 9 pounds in one month being a bit, but maybe your body needed it. Also the 20 pounds in 29 weeks really sounds pretty normal. And I totally ate my way through this hurricane. I run a biggest loser contest at work and only one person lost weight, everyone else gained weight. I wouldn't stress over it.

Re: Gaining too much too quickly...
I ate very healthy my whole pregnancy but gained what I thought was too much too quickly, my OB agreed it was a bit more than I should have gained but she wasn't worried. I think I gained most if my weight first 25 weeks. I gained 38 lbs with this pregnancy , with my first 32. (Was told by my OBs normal was 25-30 lbs) But with both kids I lost all the weight within 2-3 weeks. Actually this time around I lost all the baby weight faster than the first time. So I wouldn't worry about it, your body will do what it wants to do despite the helthy diet..I think just my boobs gained 5lbs each within the first few weeks , lol.
